This article presents a new critical reading of the results of archaeological research focused on studying the buildings of Volubilis during the Mauretanian period. This work highlights the transformations of the urban area of this Mauretanian city by inspecting the details of each transformation individually to complete our understanding of its geographical and historical framework. The article concludes that the urban area of the city during the Mauretanian period underwent three main transformations: the first created the nucleus of the city with the establishment of the Punic temple. The second emerged mainly in surrounding the urban area that extended to the central and southern quarters with a defensive wall similar to the cities of the ancient world. The third expanded the urban area beyond the city wall, into the tumulus and the arc of triumph quarters.
