Abstract

The article highlights the growing interest in archival studies in historical research, emphasizing a shift towards fundamental methodological inquiries. It contrasts the “archival turn,” focusing on the epistemological effects of archival processes on society, with the “documentary turn,” which regards archives as dynamic historical objects producing meaningful insights. Poncet discusses the separate paths taken by archivists and historians and calls for bridging this divide. He argues for a holistic approach, urging historians to transcend traditional boundaries to better understand the comprehensive epistemological issues of archiving.
